Buster

"Buster took a film projector from the movie theater where he works so he can play around with it like a prop. It's dangerous and highly unprofessional!"

Class: Tank

Rarity: Mythic

Trio: Starr Theater with Maisie and Fang

Best skin: Equilibrium Buster

Mastery title: "Blockbuster"

Buster is one of the most versatile tanks in the game with his various abilities. His trait allows him to charge his super and hypercharge passively, his main attack can deal solid burst damage, his super completely blocks any projectiles, his second gadget can secure kills, and his second star power makes him one of the few brawlers with crowd control immunity.

Health: 4800 to 9600

Movement speed: Fast

Trait: Charges super when near teammates.

Main Attack: Lens Flare

"Buster shoots a cone of light from his projector, damaging all enemies within range."

Maximum Damage: 1380 to 2760

Minimum Damage: 690 to 1380

Range: Normal

Reload Speed: Normal

Buster's main attack fire out a piercing cone that deals more damage the closer he is to the enemy. It has solid range and can also deal solid burst damage, but has a relatively slow reload speed. It is also great for attacking enemies hanging around walls due to its good wallpeek ability.

Super: Montage

"Buster projects a shield in front of him, blocking all enemy projectiles and reflecting the energy back towards enemies."

Reflection Damage: 800 to 1600

Duration: 3 seconds

Buster's super is a shield that can block and reflect enemy projectiles with his own for 3 seconds. It is also charged automatically through his trait. Once cast, he gains a slight movement speed reduction and cannot change the direction of the shield. It is a great super for gaining position and protecting him and his teammates from enemy fire. However, it does not block projectiles from enemies that are very close to Buster, and cannot reflect attacks from above or below.

Gadget 1: Utility Belt

"Buster heals himself and all nearby allies for 864 health for each ally in his Super charge area."

Cooldown: 16 seconds

This gadget can provide decent healing to Buster and his team, however it is reliant on his team being close to him to get value, as it heals less than 1000 HP if Buster uses it on himself. It isn't the best form of sustain, and should not be used as a consistent healing source.

Gadget 2: Slo-Mo Replay

"Buster's next Lens Flare pulls enemies towards him."

Cooldown: 17 seconds

This is an absolutely game changing gadget for Buster, turning him into a massive offensive threat. He can pull in enemies to deal more damage with his attacks, and they are stunned for the duration of the pull, making it even more useful. The fact that it doesn't have a long cooldown is also incredible, allowing Buster to use this gadget many times throughout the match to secure kills. Since his attack pierces, it can also pull in multiple enemies, which can be a game changing play.

Star Power 1: Blockbuster

"Buster's Lens Flare deals 15% more damage for each ally in his Super charge area."

This star power can hugely increase Buster's damage, however it is another ability that is completely reliant on allies being inside his charging radius. It also does nothing when there are no allies inside, and Buster is often not dealing damage whenever he is grouped up with his teammates, as they often have more range than him.

Star Power 2: Kevlar Vest

"While Montage is active Buster takes 10% less damage and is immune to knockbacks, slows and stuns."

This star power is incredibly strong, allowing Buster to be one of the few brawlers with immunity to crowd control while his super is active. He cannot be stunned, slowed, knocked back, or any other form of crowd control. This allows Buster to be an amazing counter to brawlers that rely on crowd control, however he can only mitigate it for himself. The shield isn't very impactful, but is a nice bonus.

Hypercharge: Plot Armor

"Buster's Shield is now 360 degress around him and reflected projectiles deal more damage!"

Charge rate: 2 and 1/2 supers

Buster's hypercharge doesn't do too much, only making his super cover all around him. However, he can passively charge up his hypercharge due to his trait, and the speed increase gives a lot of benefit to Buster as well.

Gear selection:

Buster's best gears are speed and damage, as he gets a huge benefit from the speed gear and damage is a solid boost to his damage output. On non-bushy maps, health is his second best option since he has high HP.

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Buster's best matchups include brawlers who are very reliant on their crowd control, as his Kevlar Vest star power can completely counter it. He is great into brawlers such as Tara, as he is unaffected by her super and can pierce through her shadows. He is also good against brawlers that have a lot of projectiles, as his super's reflection property can end up having them kill themselves. Brawlers such as Amber and Pearl often end up sending most of their projectiles back at themselves when Buster uses his super, dealing decent damage and forcing them back.

Best Counters:

Buster is a hard brawler to counter with his various abilities, but other tanks are often the way to go since he doesn't have the highest melee damage output. Brawlers such as Rosa, Jacky, and Bull can occasionally run him down with their high health and close up damage output, and Buster's shield really doesn't do much into them either.

Best Game Modes:

Buster is a great tank for Knockout, as he can charge his super and up passively through his trait, which not many tanks can do. He is also a great brawler for Gem Grab due to his high health, killing potential with Slo-Mo Replay, and the survivability provided by his super allowing him to survive most assassination attempts.

Tips and Tricks:

  • On long ranged maps, make sure to stay near your teammates to gain your super passively. Once you have your super, you can use it to push up the map with your team.

  • Buster's shield is hidden in bushes, so you can super in bushes and the enemies will shoot into it now knowing that you used your super.

  • Slo-Mo Replay is great for securing kills, but make sure to conserve ammo whenever pulling in a brawler, as Buster has a relatively slow reload speed.

  • With Slo-Mo Replay, use damage calculations to make sure you know what health enemies you will be able to kill. Add up your minimum main attack damage and 2 of your maximum main attack damage to know the right values.

  • You can use Buster's super to force yourself up the map and get in range of enemies, and then use Slo-Mo Replay to secure the kill.

  • You can also use Buster's super to block crowd control rather than reflecting projectiles, such as incoming stuns or knockbacks.
