Byron

"Byron has invented many concoctions and tinctures that heal or harm in various ways.... but most of them fall into the harming category"

Class: Support

Rarity: Mythic

Trio: Townsfolk with Barley and Piper

Best skin: Frank Byron

Mastery title: "The Sensational"

Byron is a great long-ranged healer that has amazing ranged and burst capabilities with his super. His abilities revolve around healing and dealing damage at the same time, making him harder to play than most healers.

Health: 2400 to 4800

Movement speed: Normal

Main Attack: Careful Dose

"Shoots a long range dart that can hit both opponents and friendlies. Opponents will take damage over time and friendlies will heal over time."

Damage/Healing: 380 to 760 per second for 3 seconds

Range: Very Long

Reload Speed: Fast

Byron's main attack either poisons enemies or heals allies over time. The effect can stack, letting you heal or attack the same brawler multiple times. It is incredibly versatile due to this, however it doesn't pierce, so you have to either heal or deal damage with each shot. It also has a fast projectile speed, good projectile width, and a very long range, making it a great long-ranged projectile. It doesn't deal much burst damage due to the poison effect, but can deal a lot of damage over time if you connect your shots.

Super: Full Treatment

"Throws a vial that heals friendlies and damages opponents."

Damage/Healing: 1500 to 3000

Range: Long

Byron's super is an AOE burst of damage/healing that can be thrown over walls. It travels very fast and deal good burst damage, making it incredibly reliable with auto-aim. This allows it to be great at securing kills and damage on opponents. The best way to use it is to hit multiple brawlers with it, both teammates and enemies.

Gadget 1: Shot In The Arm

"Byron uses one of his shots to heal himself 1200 per second for 3 seconds."

Cooldown: 17 seconds

This is a solid gadget for Byron, healing a lot of his HP for the cost of 1 ammo, which isn't too much of a downside considering his fast reload speed. This gadget allows for Byron to keep position on the map even if he gets low on health.

Gadget 2: Booster Shots

"Byron's next attack shoots 3 darts instead of one, each dealing 20% less damage and 40% less healing."

Cooldown: 18 seconds

This is an amazing gadget for Byron, being useful in almost every scenario. It can be used at long range to almost guarantee a connection, mid range for extra damage, and is especially good at close range for providing solid burst, which Byron lacks. The damage decrease doesn't often make an impact, as 20% isn't very much, and you will often be hitting more than 1 projectile. However, the 40% healing nerf makes it not ideal to waste this gadget to heal a teammate.

Star Power 1: Malaise

"Byron's Super will also cause opponents to receive 75% less healing from any source for 9 seconds."

This is a great star power for Byron, making enemies that survive his super take extremely reduced healing, forcing them back into their spawn for a long time. The duration is also very long, allowing enemies hit to be incredibly vulnerable, since they have taken damage from Byron's super and now cannot heal effectively.

Star Power 2: Injection

"Every 3.5 seconds the next basic attack will pierce through targets."

This star power is overall decent for Byron, giving him the ability to heal and damage enemies with the same shot. However, you won't often have the enemies and your teammates lined up, and it isn't every shot, making this star power not be as valuable as it looks.

Hypercharge: Unstable Concoction

"Byron's Super also fires his main attack in all directions from the point of impact."

Charge rate: 3 and 1/3 supers

Byron has a great hypercharge, as he cycles his supers very fast, allowing him to easily get multiple hypercharges per game if you are playing well. The effect is also good, as both the initial super impact and projectile can hit the same enemy, drastically increasing their damage taken. The projectiles also give the super much more area coverage, extending its range and making it able to hit multiple teammates or enemies more consistently.

Gear selection:

Byron's best gear is shield, as he is incredibly squishy and greatly benefits from the extra HP. Gadget cooldown is an amazing second option, as it allows for him to spam Booster Shots more, which is an amazing gadget. Damage is also a solid choice, as the extra damage is great for Byron. However, the damage gear doesn't increase the healing of his main attack.

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Byron is a surprisingly good brawler into most marksmen with only a few exceptions, as he can match their range and dish out decent damage with his main attack. His best matchups are often other healers, as his Malaise star power makes most of their healing ineffective. Brawlers such as Berry, Poco, and Pam are solid matchups for Byron as he outranges them, allowing for them to feed his super, which can drastically reduce their healing abilities.

Best Counters:

Byron is best countered by marksmen with very high range that can 2 shot him due to his low health. Piper is a great example of this, as she can simply land one shot and use her Homemade Recipe gadget to get a free kill on Byron. Byron is also countered by aggressive brawlers that can kill him almost instantly, such as Lily. Byron also struggles against throwers, as he has no mobility abilities and his super often isn't enough to kill them over walls. Brawlers like Sprout are able to easily force back and kill Byron, and Sprout can even create his own walls to make it even harder for Byron to take position on the map.

Best Game Modes:

Byron's best modes are Bounty and Knockout, as he an excellent ranged healer that can even secure kills with his super and Booster Shots gadget. He is also great in Hot Zone when paired with a tanky brawler, as he can constantly heal them up on the zone, making them nearly impossible to kill.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Byron's main attack has is surprisingly easy to hit, even at long range due to its width and speed. This along with his fast makes him deal solid damage at long range, even though it may not seem like he deals much damage.

  • Against aggressive brawlers, Byron can use his Booster Shots gadget to deal significant damage, and then use his super to both deal damage and heal, as it can hit both him and the enemy if they are up close to Byron.

  • Booster Shots is also an amazing gadget at long range, as the very wide spread makes it almost a guaranteed hit with auto-aim.

  • Byron is often considered a high skill brawler due to his ability to choose whether to deal damage or heal his teammates. You also need to learn both how your teammates and enemies dodge, requiring you to adjust your aim if you want to play well.

  • Byron's super is amazing for securing kills on brawlers, as it can go over walls and almost always be auto-aimed.

  • At long range, Byron can use his super for a quick heal on himself, as the enemy likely won't be in range of his super, and the heal will allow him to push up and kill them. However, Byron won't cycle his super at all if he only heals with his super, so keep this in mind.

  • With Malaise, Byron's super can also be used for general damage, as any enemy hit with it is forced back for a long time due to the healing reduction, allowing you and your team to gain position.

  • With Byron's hypercharge, try to hit brawlers on the edge of its splash radius, as it gives a greater chance of both the initial super and main attack projectile hitting the same enemy, dealing much more damage and cycling his super more effectively.

  • Byron is a great support brawler, so try to pair him with tanky brawlers to take advantage of his amazing single-target healing ability.
