Clancy

"There's no turning back with Clancy (unless Hank orders him to). He's fully embraced his fake crustacean life and will do anything for his comrades."

Class: Damage Dealer

Rarity: Mythic

Trio: Deep Sea with Hank and Otis

Best skin: Kaiju Clancy

Record title: "Shell Shocked"

Clancy is a brawler that upgrades himself throughout thee game, and can dish out a ton of damage if he is fully upgraded. However, he is very reliant on levelling himself up through attacking close-range brawlers, making him very hard to play in longer-ranged settings.

Health: 3500 to 7000

Movement speed: Normal

Trait: Tokens

Clancy gains tokens when hitting brawlers with projectiles from his main attack or super. He requires 7 tokens to get to stage 2, then 14 tokens to get to stage 3, and his stage persists even if he dies. Leveling up improves his main attack and super, and at stage 3, he gains a large, permanent movement speed boost.

Main Attack: Power Wash

"Clancy's attacks upgrade each stage.
STAGE 1: Clancy fires one paintball.
STAGE 2: Clancy fires a second paintball each attack!
STAGE 3: Clancy fires 2 additional paintballs diagonally each attack!"

Stage 1 Damage: 600 to 1200

Stage 2 Damage: 700 to 1400

Stage 3 Damage: 800 to 1600

Range: Long

Reload Speed: Slow

Clancy's main attack levels up his main attack. It starts out firing 1 projectile with medium range. It deals little damage, but isn't too hard to hit due to it being relatively wide. However, it has a very slow reload speed, making it very bad for damage. At stage 2, he now fires out 2 projectiles with increased damage, making him much more of a threat with the increased damage. At stage 3, he gains even more damage and now fires off 2 more paintballs 45 degrees from where he aims. These extra paintballs don't often deal damage unless you are right next to an enemy, where he can hit all 5 projectiles can hit, dealing a ton of damage instantly. He also gains a large movement speed boost at stage 3, making him much harder to escape and take down. The increased damage also slightly increases his super charge rate whenever he reaches the next stage. However, his slow reload speed and medium range persist throughout all stages.

Super: Torrent

"Clancy's Super upgrades each stage.
STAGE 1: Clancy fires a torrent of paintballs in a cone in front of him.
STAGE 2: Paintballs travel further.
STAGE 3: Paintballs deal 16% additional damage!"

Stage 1 and 2 Damage: 16 x 600 to 1200

Stage 3 Damage: 16 x 700 to 1400

Stage 1 Range: Normal

Stage 2 and 3 Range: Long

Clancy's super fires out 16 paintballs that start towards the middle, then go out and converge back at the center. It deals a ton of damage to enemies at close range at all stages, killing pretty much any brawler. It gains largely increased range at stage 2, allowing it to be good in mid-ranged interactions as well, and gains a solid damage boost at stage 3, shredding through targets even more.

Gadget 1: Snappy Shooting

"Clancy gains double tokens for 5 seconds."

Cooldown: 15 seconds

This is a great gadget for Clancy, allowing him to level up much faster if timed right. However, it has no impact on the game at all if he is fully levelled up, making it only good when he is trying to reach stage 3.

Gadget 2: Tactical Retreat

"Clancy dashes and reloads 1 ammo."

Cooldown: 16 seconds

This is also a great gadget for Clancy, giving him additional mobility and ammo. It can be decent for farming levels, while not as good as Snappy Shooting, due to the extra ammo given. The extra ammo is great for Clancy throughout the whole game, as his slow reload speed is a hinderance his levels don't fix. The dash is also quite good, giving him opportunities to escape, dodge, engage, or catch up with enemies.

Star Power 1: Recon

"Clancy starts the match with 2 tokens."

This star power may seem bad at first, but it actually has a larger impact than it seems, as getting out of stage 1 with Clancy is key. This star power allows you to do so in 2 less projectiles, slightly accelerating Clancy's farm.

Star Power 2: Pumping Up

"Clancy reloads all of his ammo on every enemy takedown."

This star power makes Clancy a beast when at stage 3, as he will likely be getting numerous kills. This star power allows him to chain kills back to back when max level, essentially being a "win harder" star power. However, it doesn't really do anything when Clancy is at stage 1 or 2, meaning you should only use it if you are confident you will get to stage 3.

Hypercharge: Recall Of Duty

"Clancy's Super paintballs pierce enemies then quickly return to him, dealing damage again."

Charge rate: 3 and 1/3 supers

Clancy's hypercharge turns his super's carnage to the max, effectively doubling its damage and allowing the projectiles to pierce through enemies. There is almost no brawler in the game that can take his hypercharged super, essentially guaranteeing a kill on anyone in range. However, the main problem with Clancy is his incredibly weak early stages, and he won't get his hypercharge unless he hits stage 3. This makes it, again, a "win harder" ability, as it has a long charge rate, and doesn't help him at all when he is weak, only when he is strong and likely already winning the game.

Gear selection:

Clancy's best gears are shield and damage, as they give him the extra survivability and damage to win more early interactions. This in turn allows him to farm better, making it easier to hit stage 3 and start dishing out tons of damage later in the game. Speed gear is also quite useful for Clancy, as he is often played on bushy maps to counter tanks.

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Clancy is incredibly reliant on facing tanks or close-range brawlers, as he requires farming to be good later in the game. Tanks often have larger hitboxes and walk into his range more frequently, allowing them to be his best source of tokens and super charge. Clancy's super and stage 3 attack can also kill them extremely fast due to the incredibly high damage they put out at close range. Brawlers such as Doug, Rosa, and Frank just end up feeding Clancy, which often ends up in their team losing since Clancy will be at stage 3 very quickly.

Best Counters:

Clancy is best countered by brawlers who can place spawns, as they waste his ammo, which is detrimental to him due to his slow reload speed. This also makes it so he can't farm at all, essentially making him useless. Brawlers such as Charlie and Tara have abilities that can tank for Clancy's shots, making it incredibly hard for him to get any tokens throughout the game. Throwers are also a great counter to Clancy, since they can sit behind walls which Clancy can't hit behind, denying him any charge. Ziggy, for example, is great at zoning out Clancy and preventing him from gaining any tokens.

Best Game Modes:

Clancy is often best in Brawl Ball, as it often has an abundance of tanks played, especially in bushy maps. Clancy can also be a quite good brawler in Heist, as enemies often draft tanks or aggressive brawlers to get on the safe. Clancy can defend them to level up, then get on the safe himself with his incredibly high damaging super, attack, and hypercharge. Getting one good super off on the safe is almost a guaranteed shield pop, which is incredibly impactful.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Clancy's main goal throughout the game is to level up to stage 3, preferably as fast as possible. Even if you die a few times, make sure to farm tokens to eventually hit stage 3; just make sure you don't lose the game first.

  • Clancy can be a great brawler to play in bushes, as his super has some of the highest point-blank damage in the game, allowing him to almost instantly kill any brawler that comes into a bush without checking it. This also heavily farms Clancy, allowing him to hit max level faster.

  • When using Snappy Shooting, try to combine it with his super, as that is when you will most likely be gaining tokens. You should only have to use it 3-4 times in a game, 2 at each stage.

  • Clancy's build largely depends on the skill of your enemies. If you are going up against easier enemies, use Tactical Retreat and Pumping Up, as they provide great buffs to Clancy that allows him to run over opponents once he is stage 3, and easier opponents will end up farming Clancy more. Against harder opponents, use Snappy Shooting and Recon to level up as fast as possible, since if you don't use these abilities, you may not hit stage 3 at all.

  • Make sure to have full ammo when activating Snappy Shooting to maximize its potential value. Also try to hit as many shots as possible, meaning you should use it when enemies are in his auto-aim range.

  • Clancy's super can actually miss a large chunk of its projectiles if enemies walk straight through you. Combined with its long unload time, this can give opponents the chance to damage or kill you while you can't respond. Try to predict enemy movement, especially when they are close to you, to make sure this doesn't happen.

  • You can combine Tactical Retreat and Clancy's super or hypercharge to get closer to enemies and deal devastating damage.
