Finx

"The owner of Starr Park's escape room, Finx is meant to help visitors complete tasks. Instead, he uses his time controlling abilities to cause mischief! Also, he LOVES cats."

Class: Controller

Rarity: Mythic

Trio: Escape Room

Best skin: Mecha Finx

Record title: "Waste of time"

Finx is a versatile controller that has a solid main attack, good mobility, and a game-changing super, decreasing enemy projectile speed and increasing him and his teammates projectile speed. He has several good qualities about him, making him a very hard brawler to counter.

Health: 3700 to 7400

Movement speed: Fast

Main Attack: Chronocast

"Finx fires 3 long range projectiles, with the outer ones dealing 50% of the damage of the center projectile."

Outer Projectile Damage: 450 to 900

Center Projectile Damage: 900 to 1800

Range: Long

Reload Speed: Very Fast

Finx fires 3 projectiles next to each other, with the center one traveling further and dealing additional damage. Only 2 projectiles can hit an enemy at a time, but still deal decent damage. It has a slow projectile speed, making it occasionally hard to hit brawlers at long range, but a fast reload speed and wide coverage, making it very spammable.

Super: Time Warp

"Finx warps time in an area, decreasing the projectile speed of enemy Brawlers caught in the Super, while increasing the projectile speed of any teammates and himself. Finx's projectiles will also get a damage buff."

Duration: 7 seconds

Damage Boost: 25%

Range: Long

Finx's super is incredibly strong, making an area where enemy projectile speed is decreased and allied projectile speed is increased. Only projectiles need to pass through, brawlers do not need to be standing inside of it. The decreased projectile speed makes it incredibly easy for brawlers inside to react and dodge to incoming projectiles, and the increased projectile speed and damage makes his and allied projectiles incredibly easy to hit as long as they go through. Note that Finx's super does not affect brawlers with a dash or instant projectile speed. Overall, Finx's super provides incredibly strong control by buffing his team's attacks and nerfing the enemy team's attacks in an area for an extended period of time. â€‹â€‹

Gadget 1: Back To The Finxture

"Finx steps back in time, returning to the position and ammo he had 3 seconds ago."

Cooldown: 18 seconds

This gadget gives Finx extra mobility on top of his fast movement speed, allowing him to get away from sticky situations or teleport on top of an enemy brawler. If played right, he can also instantly reload his ammo, giving him massively increased burst damage. However, this gadget takes a ton of skill to use, as getting maximum value out of it requires thought and planning in order to teleport to the right location and not lose ammo in the process.

Gadget 2: No Escape

"Finx's next center projectile from his main attack freezes the enemy in time for 2 seconds, making them unable to take actions for the duration, but also making them immune to any damage."

Cooldown: 17 seconds

This gadget essentially stops time for the enemy hit, delaying their actions for 2 seconds. It can occasionally be useful to get away from them and have Finx and his allies line up their shots, but it comes with a few drawbacks. Firstly, it can only be activated if Finx hits the center projectile, which isn't a guarantee with his slow projectile speed. Secondly, frozen brawlers can't be damaged, making it not too useful for immobilizing targets. Finally, their actions will still be resumed after the time is up, and the gadget ends up often delaying the inevitable.

Star Power 1: Hieroglyph Halt

"Finx reduces the reload speed of any enemy Brawlers hit by his main attack by 25% for 3 seconds."

This star power provides extra value to Finx's main attack, slightly reducing enemy reload speed for a short period of time. It is applied with all of Finx's projectiles, making it relatively easy to activate. It is best used against aggressive brawlers with fast reload speeds, as it is more punishing for them to waste their ammo after getting hit. Overall, this star power can provide a solid debuff to enemies throughout the course of the game, making it so your team has to deal with less shots overall.

Star Power 2: Primer

"Damage dealt only from Finx's projectiles that are sped up by Time Warp, will increase the Super duration by 0.25 seconds each."

This star power may seem good at first, however it has a few drawbacks. It is only increased if Finx hits sped up projectiles, which doesn't happen too often since he doesn't have the longest range and enemies often run away from Finx's super. Additionally the duration increase is very small, only a quarter of a second per projectile. It doesn't really provide a significant amount of value unless facing bad opponents, as they will constantly be getting hit by Finx's sped up shots.

Hypercharge: Temporal Traveling

"Finx activates an additional Time Warp around himself that follows his movement."

Charge rate: 3 and 1/3 supers

Finx's hypercharge gives him additional super around himself along with being able to throw out his normal super. This allows for all enemy projectiles around him to be slowed down, drastically increasing his survivability, and all of Finx's projectiles to be sped up, which is amazing since Finx's base projectile speed is relatively slow. He also gains the damage boost from his super at all times, making him have amazing damage output when combined with the increased projectile speed. Overall, this hypercharge allows Finx's super to be a great tool for himself along with his team, increasing Finx's damage output and survivability by a large margin.

Gear selection:

Finx has several good gear options with his versatile nature. Shield and damage gear are often the best, as they provide him with great stat buffs, but vision gear works great with Finx as well thanks to his fast reload speed and multi-projectile shot with wide coverage. Health can also be a decent option on Finx, as with his fast reload speed, you want to be in combat as much as possible. Health gear allows him to spend less time recovering, and gets decent value on Finx with his larger than average health pool.

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Finx is a solid brawler into most matchups, due to his high damage potential, decent range, and above average mobility. He does best against brawlers with a boomerang style attack, as his super not only slows their projectile, but makes them unable to shoot for a long time due to their projectile returning to them much later. Brawlers such as Carl, Charlie, and Lumi fall into this category, making Finx a solid counter to their attacks.

Best Counters:

Finx is countered decently by specific midrangers, however it is hard to counter him due to his overall above average stats. Crow is the most consistent counter, as his chip damage shots are easier to hit than Finx's, forcing Finx back to heal very often. He can also dodge or get out of Finx's range easily thanks to his fast movement speed. Similarly, Meeple is also a decent counter since his shot outranges Finx and hits much easier thanks to the homing. Finx also can't respond to Meeple's super, forcing him back. Emz is also a solid counter to Finx due to her incredibly wide shot, high burst damage, and solid crowd control with her super and gadget, gaining easy position against Finx if she is dodging his shots. Since her projectiles already travel relatively slow, Finx's super doesn't affect her all too much compared to other brawlers.

Best Game Modes:

Finx is an amazing brawler for Hot Zone, as his super is perfect for taking back control of the zone, as you can just throw it directly in the middle of the zone for easy dodges and connections. Finx is also a solid brawler in Gem Grab with his control, mobility, and solid damage output against close-range brawlers.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Finx's attack may be wide, but its projectile speed is pretty slow, making manual aim often the better choice in more open scenarios. Try to fire shots in bursts of 2, one to the left and one to the right, to try and get guaranteed damage. You don't have to worry about ammo too often since Finx has a fast reload speed.

  • Don't just place Finx's super right on himself, place it slightly further up the map. You will likely gain position with Finx's super, and placing it too far back allows enemies to just back away from it to avoid its affect. Placing it further up forces enemies back much farther, allowing you and your team to take control more effectively.

  • With Back To The Finxture, there is an indicator to where you will teleport back to, however there isn't an indicator of how much ammo you will have, so you need to track it yourself. This is why it is often better to fire Finx's shots in bursts rather than firing the instant you reload.

  • Movement with Finx is very important, as he has a fast movement speed allowing him to dodge more shots. You also don't want to be constantly in the exact same spot, since when using Back To The Finxture, you will teleport to the exact same spot. Try to make sure the indicator is always a few tiles away from your current position.

  • When using Finx's hypercharge, try to place the normal super as far away from you as possible but still near your teammates so the supers don't overlap. This is great to apply dual-lane pressure, getting maximum value out of Finx's hypercharge.

  • When aiming against still targets such as spawns or the Heist safe, don't auto-aim with Finx. Auto-aim only hits the center projectile, so you need to manually aim to get the center and one of the side projectiles to connect.

  • Back To The Finxture is Finx's best way to deal with aggressive brawlers, as it not only teleports him away but massively increases his burst damage, as he can potentially reload all of his ammo.

  • Finx gains a super charge rate boost along with a damage boost if he hits his sped up projectiles, so make sure to save as much ammo as you can when using your super to deal increased damage and cycle to your next super more effectively. Finx's super can take a while to charge up, which is why this is so important.
