Juju

"Juju owns the Oddities Shop and is followed everywhere by her "pet" voodoo doll, Gris-Gris (pronounced Gregory). Although she can control the elements, Juju is also a talented toymaker who makes dolls to sell to Starr Park's many visitors."

Class: Artillery

Rarity: Mythic

Trio: Oddities Shop with Gigi

Best skin: Queen Juju

Record title: "Hexed"

Juju is an artillery brawler whos main attack changes depending on the environment she is standing on. Her super is a spawn that can deal decent midranged damage and applies a ton of pressure. These allows her to be immensely versatile, being one of the hardest throwers to counter.

Health: 3100 to 6200

Movement speed: Normal

Trait: Juju can move over water.

Main Attack: Elemental Energy

"Juju throws projectiles empowered by the environment she is standing on, giving them different properties!
Ground: More damage
Grass: More range
Water: Has a slowing effect"

Grass and Water Damage: 800 to 1600

Ground Damage: 1000 to 2000

Ground and Water Range: Normal

Grass Range: Long

Water Slow Duration: 3 seconds

Reload Speed: Normal

Juju has a unique main attack, having different properties depending on what environment she is currently standing in. Her ground attack, which is used the most often, gains 25% extra damage and increased super charge, her grass attack gains a ton of range, and her water attack slows enemies for 3 seconds. Ground and grass are her most used attacks, as not many maps have water, and they are great when paired together, allowing Juju to both chip from afar and burst up close. Her attack also has a pretty good auto-aim distance and unload speed, allowing her to burst down brawlers who are relatively close to her, which is made even better with her ground attack. Her grass attack has incredibly long range, allowing her to chip or finish retreating enemies and charge her super from afar. And while her water attack isn't used as often, the slow is devastating to them, allowing Juju and her team to easily finish off the kill.

Super: Moe's Machine

"Juju summons Gris-Gris. This spooky voodoo doll drags itself to the nearest enemy and throws needles at them."

Gris-Gris Damage: 800 to 1600

Gris-Gris Health: 3600 to 7200

Gris-Gris Range: Normal

Gris-Gris is an excellent spawn for Juju, firing out high damage shots at mid range. It also has a ton of health, making it hard for enemies to take down. It excels mainly against assassins, as they will end up taking a ton of damage from Gris-Gris before they are able to bring it down.

Gadget 1: Voodoo Chile

"Juju's next attack has the power of all three elements."

Cooldown: 14 seconds

This is a solid gadget for Juju, giving her next attack all 3 elemental effects. It is mainly used for the slow from her water attack, as it is very strong and not often used. It also has great range with her grass attack, allowing her to slow enemies from very far away.

Gadget 2: Elementalist

"Juju gains a temporary buff based on the current environment she is standing on!
Ground: Damage reduction
Grass: Invisibility
Water: Increased movement speed"

Cooldown: 17 seconds

This gadget gives Juju a 3 second buff depending on the environment. All 3 of these buffs are amazing for Juju. Ground gives a 30% damage reduction, which makes her incredibly tanky for an artillery brawler, allowing her to survive many more interactions. Grass gives invisibility, which is great for making sneaky plays, and Juju can't even be permanently revealed during the 3 seconds, even if she attacks or is damaged. Water, while being the hardest to access, gives her a huge movement speed boost, allowing her to dodge more attacks and apply more pressure to the enemy team. Overall, this gadget provides even more versatility to Juju's kit, allowing her to adapt to almost any situation.

Star Power 1: Guarded Gris-Gris

"Gris-Gris is summoned with a protective shield."

This star power gives Gris-Gris a decaying shield among spawning, effectively increasing its total health. This star power is best used against longer-ranged opponents, as Gris-Gris will soak up more of their precious ammo when they try to kill it.

Star Power 2: Numbing Needles

"Gris-Gris' attack now also slows the enemy for 1 sec"

This star power turns Gris-Gris attacks from attacks that aren't too impactful to attacks you need to avoid. The slow is incredibly strong, allowing for Gris-Gris to hit all of his needles if it just hits 1 for the initial slow. It completely shuts down any brawler in its range, allowing for Juju and her team to easily finish them off. However, it isn't very good against ranged brawlers as they can just stay out of Gris-Gris relatively short range.

Hypercharge: Bokor

"Juju summons a Hypercharged Gris-Gris giving him bigger needles, 25% more speed, 20% more health, and 20% more damage."

Charge rate: 2 and 1/2 supers

This hypercharge grants Gris-Gris immense buffs, making it stronger in almost every way. The stat buffs turn it into a huge threat, as it is tankier, deals more damage, has needles that are easier to hit, and the speed buff makes it almost impossible to outrun. It is especially strong when combined with either one of Juju's star powers, making it even more tanky or deadly. It also has a relatively normal charge rate, so you can consistently get it in a game without too much effort.

Gear selection:

Damage and shield are the best gear options for Juju, as they allow her to survive more interaction with the increased effective health and damage at low HP. Vision gear can also be decent gear for her, as her grass attacks can chip opponents down from far away, and vision gear can allow you to more consistently connect shots on enemies trying to heal up in bushes.

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Juju is an excellent thrower into most conventional thrower matchups, and is also good against other low-damage throwers with Gris-Gris. Brawlers with no way to attack around walls such as Charlie and Jessie heavily struggle to deal with her main attacks, and aren't very good at burst down Gris-Gris either. Throwers such as Ziggy also struggle to deal with Juju, as she has superior burst damage, and Gris-Gris is a huge problem for his slow reload speed.

Best Counters:

Juju is a tricky thrower to counter, as most assassins and tanks are weak against Gris-Gris, especially with Juju's Numbing Needles star power, almost permaslowing them. However, Frank is one of the only tanks that is good against Juju, primarily due to his health being way too much for Juju and Gris-Gris to deal with, even combined, and he can break open the environment with his super. This is the main way to counter Juju, as she is incredibly reliant on walls, bushes, and water for cover and her different attacks. Amber and Brock are great brawlers to destroy the environment over time, hindering Juju's presence throughout the game. They can also burst down Gris-Gris relatively quickly if they have enough ammo, and can easily stay out of its range.

Best Game Modes:

With Juju's adaptability, she can be good in almost any map or mode, as long as there is enough walls, grass or water. Her best mode is likely Hot Zone, as she is an excellent thrower to hold control, and maps are often balanced in terms of the environment. Knockout is also a great mode for her, as she has extremely long range with her grass shot, and Gris-Gris is a powerful tool once the gas closes in.

Tips and Tricks:

  • The best part about Juju is her adaptability. Using the right main attack, Elementalist buff, and star power is key to playing her effectively.

  • On water maps, you should only try to hit brawlers with her water shot only once. Switch to ground attacks afterwards to get maximum damage and super charge, as she does low damage while not on the ground.

  • Juju's grass shot has a slow travel speed, so make sure to predict enemy movement accordingly when using it. It's hard to tell where it is going to land from the enemies' perspective, so it can occasionally be hard for them to dodge.

  • Juju has a solid auto-aim range for a thrower, as her attacks land faster the closer they are aimed. This, combined with her faster than average unload speed, allows her to burst targets close to her effectively, especially if she has her ground shot. This is best used when combined with Elementalist's invisibility, allowing her to get closer to enemies easier.

  • Gris-Gris is an excellent tool to both counter aggressive brawlers and to exert pressure on the enemy team. However, try not to place it in the range of multiple enemies, as they can burst it down relatively fast.

  • Try to place Gris-Gris down at a medium range from the enemies. This is done to make sure it isn't burst down as quickly, but is still in range of enemies. It also moves very slowly, making it bad at chasing enemies.

  • Cycling Gris-Gris is key for playing Juju, as you don't want to be caught out without her super, as she is very vulnerable. It also helps her get her hypercharge faster, which is incredibly effective for pressure and kills.
