Ash

"Ash has the thankless job of keeping the park clean. He's climbed into a trash can to protect himself from broken glass and rat bites. It makes him grumpy!"

Class: Tank

Rarity: Epic

Trio: Caste Courtyard with Grom and Moe

Best skin: P.E.K.K.A.S.H

Mastery title: "Trash Tier"

Ash is a tank who gets stronger when taking or dealing damage. His kit synergizes around his Rage, which is his special trait. The higher his rage, the faster and more damaging he is. His super also allows for him to have a good matchup into conventional tank counters.

Health: 5400 to 10800

Movement speed: Normal to Very Fast

Trait: Rage

Ash has another bar below his ammo that shows his rage. If Ash takes or deals damage, his rage bar fills up. Filling up the rage bar increases his main attack damage and movement speed. It takes around 13500 damage dealt to Ash(at max level) to fully charge his rage bar, and around 6 hits of his main attack. The rage bar has 3 stages: at stage 1, he has normal damage and movement speed, at stage 2, he deals 50% extra damage with his main attack and has a fast movement speed, and at stage 3, he deals 100% extra damage with his main attack and has a very fast movement speed. You can see his current stage by either looking at the bar or the icon near the bar. The rage bar slowly depletes over time, taking around 15 seconds to fully deplete.

Main Attack: Clean-Up

"Ash angrily smashes down with his broom. Get out of the way or you might bite the dust!"

Stage 1 Damage: 800 to 1600

Stage 2 Damage: 1200 to 2400

Stage 3 Damage: 1600 to 3200

Range: Normal

Reload speed: Fast

Ash's main attack has a longer range than most tanks and pierces through multiple enemies. However, it does have quite a long delay that you have to take into account when using. When his rage goes up, the more damage this attack deals. At stage 2 and 3, his attack starts dealing a lot of damage, shredding through most brawlers in the game.

Super: Little Helpers

"Robotic rats for cleaning up? That's right, they explode on contact, dealing damage to opponents and greatly increasing Ash's Rage level."

Damage/Health: 5 x 300 to 600

Range: Normal

Ash's rats may not seem good at first since they don't deal much damage, however they carry much more value than this. Firstly, they charge up his rage quite a lot of they connect, giving him a great alternate way to increase his rage. They also move extremely fast and have a large count, allowing him to counter single shot brawlers, as they heavily struggle to take them out.

Gadget 1: Chill Pill

"Though furious, Ash has to collect himself. A full rage meter will recover 3240 health when this Gadget is popped - less Rage, less recovery."

Cooldown: 13 seconds

This is a great gadget for Ash, allowing him to recover health while he is low HP. It does reduce his damage and movement speed, but allows him to survive and win many more interactions. It is also great when paired with his super, as it will often overcharge his rage.

Gadget 2: Rotten Banana

"Ash loses 10% health and instantly gains 40% rage."

Cooldown: 8 seconds

This is a gadget with a more punishing trade off, however the cooldown is extremely short. Giving Ash extra rage is also quite strong, as this gadget instantly gets him to stage 2. It is mainly used when Ash is paired with healers, as they can pretty much negate the health loss.

Star Power 1: First Bash

"When hitting an opponent with his attack charges full, Ash gets even more angry. His Rage goes up by 200%."

This is an extremely strong star power for Ash, allowing him to charge up his rage much faster with his first attack if his ammo is full. It charges his rage over halfway, allowing for him to not need as much damage or hits to keep it high.

Star Power 2: Mad As Heck

"Ash progressively gains up to 40% faster reload speed, equal to how enraged he's become."

This star power is still strong, however it requires a bit more setup to be useful. Ash will either struggle to build up his rage, or completely run over the opponents when raged up with his extremely high damage. This star power is great when paired with healers, as they increase Ash's survivability, in turn giving this star power more value.

Hypercharge: Magnetic

"Little Helper spawns 5 more rats!"

Charge rate: 2 supers

Speed buff: 26%

Damage buff: 5%

Shield buff: 25%

Ash has a great hypercharge, greatly enhancing his super and charging very fast. His super now deals a ton of damage with the rats, and any single shot brawlers is completely unable to stop them from connecting. His rage will pretty much go up to full, and the stat boosts and charge rate are also amazing, allowing him to run down entire teams by himself.

Epic Gear: Super Charge

This gear increases Ash's super charge rate by 10%, allowing him to charge his super in 1 less hit. This also affects his hypercharge rate.

Gear selection:

Ash has a bunch of great gear option to use based on the enemy team comp and the map. On bushy maps, speed gear is a must as he will be moving extremely fast at high rage and his hypercharge. Super charge is a great gear option if going into single shot brawlers, and health is a great choice if going into bad matchups. Damage is also a great best general gear option. Overall, it is recommended to get more than 2 gears on Ash, but his best overall are damage and speed, as he will often be played on bushy maps.

Best build:

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Ash is an amazing run-down brawler due to his rage mechanic making him nearly impossible for some brawlers to kill. He does overall good into most matchups, but is particularly good against low damaging, single shot brawlers. Meeple, Mr. P, and Gus are great examples of this as they are single shot brawlers that don't deal a lot of damage, allowing him to effectively run them down on bushy maps.

Best Counters:

Ash is mainly countered by high health splash damage tanks, as they are hard for him to kill, and they can pierce through his rats. He is also countered by knockbacks and stuns due to him having a delay with his attack. With this in mind, Frank, Rosa, and Buzz are all splash damage tanky brawlers that are great counters to Ash. Frank and Buzz can stun Ash and interrupt his attack, while having a lot of health, and Rosa's shield makes it almost impossible for Ash to ever kill her.

Best Game Modes:

Ash's best mode is Gem Grab, as he can often run down the Gem Carrier, as they are often not splash damaging. Gem Grab maps also tend to be very bushy, giving him a bunch more value as a tank with decent range. He is also good in Brawl Ball due to the abundance of bushy maps and non-splash brawlers.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Make sure to keep in mind Ash's attack delay, as it makes his attack slightly harder to use than most brawlers.

  • Ash's attack has a deceptively long range due to his high  movement speed and fast projectile speed, so use this to surprise enemies at the edge of his range.

  • Maintaining Ash's rage is a key part of his gameplay. An Ash at max HP and max rage is incredibly hard to stop, as he deals a ton of damage and moves extremely fast.

  • Try to get several gears on Ash, as he is an excellent tank in Ranked due to his ability to do good into most conventional tank counters. His gears are a big part of this, allowing him to shift matchups into his favor with his gear selection.

  • Pairing Ash with a healer such as Byron is very effective, as it allows him to use his other build to get much more value and run down the opponents much more consistently.

  • If at full rage, you can use Ash's super then use Chill Pill to recover some health, as his rats will likely charge his rage back up. This is very useful in allowing him to keep his HP high without falling back to heal.

  • Try to reload back to 3 ammo when using Ash's First Bash star power, as it makes his next attack charge up his rage much more, which is game-changing in some scenarios.

  • With Ash's hypercharge and super, try to surround splash brawlers with it to make it harder for them to take out in one shot.

  • You can also use Ash's hypercharge in the back of the map to help cycle to another hypercharge, as the charge rate is very fast.
