Sam is a unique tank/assassin that relies on running down his opponents with his speed and health. He also has solid assassin capabilities, being hard for some brawlers to kill in a 1v1. He also has an incredibly powerful hypercharge, however it can take a very long time to get.

​

Health: 5400 to 10800

Movement speed: Fast

Trait: Spawns with a fully charged super

Sam always spawns in with his super fully charged, at both the beginning of a match or after he respawns.

​

Main Attack: Heavy Haymakers

"Sam unleashes a double dose of hard-hitting punches. With his gloves on, he deals a lot more damage."

Damage with gloves: 2 x 800 to 1600

Damage without gloves: 2 x 400 to 800

Range: Short

Reload speed with gloves: Normal

Reload speed without gloves: Very Fast

Sam's main attack with his gloves is two punches that deal decent damage at a short range. It has a relatively slow reload and unload speed, not having the greatest sustained damage. Without his gloves, it is the complete opposite, having fast reload and unload speed with low damage. It is also much thinner, but can deal damage slightly faster than when Sam has his gloves.​

Super: Knuckle Busters

"Sam throws his Knuckle Busters dealing damage to all enemies hit before landing on the ground. His next Super will return them back to his hands and also deals damage."

Damage: 1400 to 2800

Recall damage: 700 to 1400

Range: Long

Sam's super is the main part of his kit, requiring a ton of skill to use properly. He throws out his gloves, dealing solid damage at a good range and getting a speed boost. Sam can recharge his super by simply picking up his gloves, or can hit enemies to recall it back, dealing half damage. Never throw out your gloves without planning to pick them up, however, as Sam is pretty much useless without his super.

Gadget 1: Magnetic Field

"While the Knuckle Busters are on the ground, Sam can activate them to pull in nearby enemies."

Cooldown: 17 seconds

This is an incredibly good gadget for Sam that allows him to be an assassin, as the pull stuns enemies, allowing for Sam to get an easy kill on them. It can also be activated as long as Sam's gloves are on the ground, and its cooldown lets it be used many times per game.​

Gadget 2: Pulse Repellent

"Upon landing on the ground, Sam's next deployed Knuckle Busters releases an electric pulse that knocks back enemies."

Cooldown: 11 seconds

This is a really bad gadget, as it knocks enemies away from Sam's super, often making it harder for him to get the kill. It can occasionally be useful for its knockback, but it is far overshadowed by Magnetic Field.

Star Power 1: Hearty Recovery

"Upon recalling his Knuckle Busters, Sam instantly recovers 20% of his missing health."

This star power is completely necessary for playing Sam, as he is almost useless without any form of healing. He gets killed easily by high damage brawlers or multiple enemies. The fact that Sam can also spam out his super against walls makes this star power even more valuable, allowing him to heal from low HP very fast without passive healing.​

Star Power 2: Remote Recharge

"While the Knuckle Busters are on the ground and near enemies, they will charge up Sam's Super."

This star power is completely useless, as enemies will almost never stand near his knuckles. Sam also shouldn't be leaving his gloves on the ground, as he is a very easy kill without them. Sam is also very reliant on Hearty Recovery, further invalidating this star power.

Hypercharge: Hyper Fist

"Sam's Knuckle Busters travel faster and will fully charge his Super if they hit an enemy Brawler during the Hypercharge."

Charge rate: 4 supers (not counting his trait)

Speed buff: 25%

Damage buff: 25%

Shield buff: 5%

Sam's hypercharge is pretty much overpowered, as he can relentlessly spam auto-aim to deal a ton of damage and heal with Hearty Recovery. It also travels faster, allowing for him to unleash even more carnage. However, this hypercharge takes forever to get, often taking nearly the whole match, and against bad matchups, there is a very low chance of actually getting it.

Gear selection:

Sam has several good gear options with his tank/assassin nature. Damage is his overall best gear, but health, speed, and even shield are viable options for him depending on the map and matchups. Speed is good on bushy maps, health is good against hard matchups, and shield is good against good matchups.

Best Matchups:

Sam excels at running down low DPS brawlers with no crowd control with his high speed, tankiness, and sustain. Good examples of this are Mr. P, Meeple, and Squeak, as they have either low damage attacks or slow reload speed, and can't really do anything if a Sam is running at them.

​

Best Counters:

Sam is countered by most general tank counters, especially ones with high burst damage and crowd control. Lou, Surge, and Otis are all great shutdowns to Sam, as they can take advantage of him and render him almost useless thanks to their high burst damage and crowd control.

​

Best Game Modes: 

Sam is generally a matchup dependent brawler, so any mode can work for him as long as they aren't too open. His best modes are probably Gem Grab and Brawl Ball, as his hypercharge has a bigger effect in those game modes due to its turnaround potential. â€‹

​

Tips and Tricks:

  • Try to be constantly using Sam's super, as it provides amazing speed and healing for yourself. 

  • Sam can be a great assassin with his Magnetic Field gadget. Try to pull in enemies just before they get out of its range, as that is likely when you will catch up to your gloves, letting you get some attacks off before they can.

  • Don't throw out Sam's super carelessly, as it is incredibly punishing if you can't pick it back up. It takes a long time to charge with his main attack as well, and you don't have the speed boost and healing.

  • Don't use Sam's super as your only healing. Only use it for healing when at low HP, as the healing scales with his lost HP, making it almost ineffective if you are close to max HP.

  • Try not to run into multiple enemies with Sam, as they will likely have the damage to take you down. Only do this if you know they are low on ammo and they don't have any abilities ready to counter you.

  • Sam is an amazing pressure brawler. He may die a lot and not have the best stats, but a skilled Sam knows that his pressuring capabilities are one of his best aspects. Pressure alone can win you games, and Sam does this very well with his high HP and speed.

  • Matchups are very important when playing Sam. Don't run into a counter under most circumstances, as you likely won't kill them and they will just feed their super and hypercharge from you.

  • Sam's hypercharge is incredibly broken, allowing for an easy teamwipe. Sam's priority should be to charge it up as soon as possible, as it can completely change the game.

  • Sam's Magnetic Field gadget stunning the enemy can allow him to win certain matchups he shouldn't be able to win, as the enemy can't get their high damage or crowd control ability off. His solid burst damage can allow him to get the kill without even taking any damage.
