Tick

"Tick follows Penny around like a pet as she plots her next big scheme. He isn't good for much besides blowing things up, but that's usually plenty!"

Class: Artillery

Rarity: Super Rare

Trio: Pirate with Darryl and Penny

Best skin: Cerberus Tick

Mastery title: "Where's my head?"

Tick is a thrower with incredibly long range, who leaves behind mines with his main attack. He can be very good at annoying the enemy and forcing them back from a long range, however his attack takes a long time to land and he has the lowest HP in the game. He does have multiple ways to deal with aggressive brawlers, however.

Health: 2200 to 4400

Movement speed: Normal

Main Attack: Minimines

"Tick lobs a cluster of mines that separate before landing. The mines explode on contact with a target, or after a few seconds."

Damage: 3 x 680 to 1360

Range: Long

Reload speed: Very Slow

Tick's main attack is strong because of its incredibly long range and area control for a thrower. The mines also have the same pattern no matter what angle it is shot at, and the mines land closer together the closer you aim your attack. It is balanced out by his slow reload speed and how long it takes to land, but the attack is still incredibly oppressive and can gain control over the map very easily. The slow landing speed means that Tick's main attack is almost useless at close or point blank range.

Super: Headfirst

"Tick detaches and launches his head. After landing, the head hops toward the nearest target and explodes on contact!"

Head health: 1600 to 3200

Damage: 2000 to 4000

Movement speed: Very fast

Range: Short

Tick's super can be used in multiple ways, however the best way to use it is to defend yourself against an aggressive brawler. The damage and knockback are often enough to get the enemy to disengage with you and retreat. If they retreat, then they will likely be in a better position for your main attacks. However, high damage brawlers can take out the head very easily, as it doesn't have very much health.

Gadget 1: Mine Mania

"Tick's next attack fires 6 mines."

Cooldown: 15 seconds

This gadget may seem good at first, but it doesn't really contribute much, as you may only get 1 or 2 more mine connections on enemies.

Gadget 2: Satchel Charge

"Tick gains a 50% shield for 1 seconds. After that, it bursts out for 1360 damage."

Cooldown: 15 seconds

This is a great gadget for Tick, as it gives him another option for defending himself against an aggressive brawler. It can also be used to tank damage, which is very good for Tick as he has incredibly low HP.

Star Power 1: Well Oiled

"When Tick takes no damage and doesn't attack, he starts recovering health 2 seconds sooner than normal."

This is an amazing star power, allowing Tick to almost never fall back against poke damage, as it only takes him 1 second to start healing. This allows him to keep up the pressure even while getting damaged. However, his HP is still low, so you can't push up too far or you will still die very easily.

Star Power 2: Automa-Tick Reload

"Tick's reload time is 9% shorter."

This is a decent star power, as Tick does have a slow reload speed, but it is overall not as good as his other star power.

Hypercharge: Headstrong

"Tick quickly deploys his head, charging enemies faster and leaving behind 6 of his minimines on explosion."

Charge rate: 2 and 1/3 supers

Speed buff: 26%

Damage buff: 25%

Shield buff: 5%

Tick has a decent hypercharge, as it charges fast and the head can be troublesome to deal with. Close range brawlers struggle even more against it since it is so fast. The mines it leaves behind aren't very good, unfortunately, as it is easy to avoid them. However, if they do run over them, they will take 4000 damage and recharge 1/3 of Tick's super.

Mythic Gear: Thicc Head

Tick's head gains 1000 health.

Gear selection:

Tick has a very solid mythic gear, increasing the chance that his super will connect on an enemy, so this should always be used. Shield is also a must have on Tick since he has the lowest HP in the game.

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Tick does well against other passive brawlers that have low HP, or brawlers that can't take out his head well. Byron is a great example of this, as he is a passive healer used on long ranged maps, but his poison damage usually isn't fast enough to take down tick's head. Janet is also a good matchup as it takes her 3 ammo to kill Tick's head (under normal circumstances with mythic gear). Tick is also good into Penny for similar reasons as Janet, but he can also take out her turret with her main attack, since it is usually placed behind walls.

Best Counters:

Tick can sometimes do decent against assassins and tanks due to his super and gadget, but there are a few specific ones that are able to get through him. Darryl is a great example as his roll allows him to mitigate Tick's knockback and damage, easily letting get the kill on Tick. Cordelius is also a great counter, as if he can get his super, Tick cannot use his super or gadget to try and force him away. He can also easily take out his head while outside of the shadow realm as well. Finally, Gray can be an amazing counter due to his instant teleport not allowing Tick to react, as he can 2 shot Tick (without shield gear) and take out his head easily.

Best Game Modes:

Tick is best used in passive modes like Knockout and Bounty to take advantage of his range and area control. Stay behind walls and slowly push the enemy back, using your super and gadget to defend yourself.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Try to spread out Tick's attack to cover as much area as possible. Still try and aim for where you think the enemy will walk.

  • If a brawler is starting to get close to you, run away and aim in front of you. This will give your attacks a greater chance to land since they come down very slowly.

  • Aiming close to yourself reduces the spread of the mines, making it easier to connect multiple mines on the same opponent.

  • Against high damage brawlers, try to place your super down as close as possible to them and when they are low on ammo to give your head the greatest chance of connecting.

  • When using your gadget or super, try to preaim your attacks to where the enemy will get knocked back into to get more value out of your attacks.

  • Be very mindful of Tick's HP. He can be brough down to one shot if even one strong attack connects on him. Stay behind walls and retreat when necessary.

  • Tick also gets countered very easily by brawlers who have fast movement speed, as they can dodge his mines easily and pressure him.
