Trunk

"Trunk is a suspiciously uncanny looking tree. It couldn't be because Trunk is actually a colony of hyper-intelligent ants controlling a fake mechanical tree? No, that would be ridiculous."

Class: Tank

Rarity: Epic

Trio: Enchanted Forest with Lily and Cordelius

Best skin: NA

Mastery title: "Controlled by Ants"

Trunk is a tank who revolves around providing buffs to himself through placing down ants. He has solid mobility and good health, however he has lower damage than most tanks because of the delay with his main attack, and the fact that it only deals good damage at the edge of its range.

Health: 5000 to 10000

Movement speed: Fast

Main Attack: Ant Attack!

"Trunk spins in a circle after a short delay, dealing damage to enemies and dropping ants. Standing near ants gives Trunk a 20% movement speed boost and 30% damage boost. The edge of the attack deals more damage to enemies."

Damage: 960 to 1920

Edge Damage: 1400 to 2800

Range: Short

Reload Speed: Normal

Trunk's main attack is overall very awkward to use. Most circle attacks are easy to get the hang of, however Trunk's has a delay, and it only deals good damage if you hit an enemy on the very edge of its radius. The ants it drops, however, are a crucial part of Trunk's kit, giving him a great movement speed and damage buff that makes his main attack easier to use, as it deals more damage and he can catch up to enemies faster. The ants also last 20 seconds, which is a very long time.

Super: Driven By Revenge(And Ants)

"Trunk propels themselves at enemies, dropping ants along the way. They can bounce off walls too!"

Continuous Damage: 150 to 300

Range: Long

Trunk's super is a dash that drops ants and bounces off of walls. If he comes into contact with an enemy brawler, he slows down, dealing small amounts of damage rapidly while in contact. He also gains 50% damage reduction while dashing. Trunk's super is very useful, giving him more damage, mobility, and buffs with the ants it drops.

Trait: Charges super from taking damage(aka tank trait)

Gadget 1: For The Queen!

"Trunk instantly spreads ants in a large area."

Cooldown: 7 seconds

This is a simple but effective gadget for Trunk, giving him a huge amount of area control throughout the match with him constantly dropping ants. The gadget also has an incredibly short cooldown, so it is almost always used off cooldown.

Gadget 2: Worker Ants

"Trunk heals from the first source of damage taken for the next 2 secs."

Cooldown: 16 seconds

This is also an great gadget for Trunk, as the next time he takes damage, it is converted to healing. This is great for tanking a big blow, and drastically increases Trunk's survivability in a 1v1. It does take good timing to use however, so use it against the right abilities to get the most value out of it.

Star Power 1: New Insect Overlords

"Ants also reduce the damage of enemies by 15%"

This is a solid star power for Trunk, as he will constantly be dropping ants throughout the match. The damage reduction isn't huge, but it can still often make a difference, as enemies likely aren't paying attention to whether they are standing on ants.

Star Power 2: Colony Scouts

"Ants reveal hidden enemies."

This is also a decent star power for Trunk, albeit more situational due to it requiring bushes or an invisible enemy to get value out of. But it can provide huge value if it is able to reveal enemies, as Trunk the ants last for such a long time.

Hypercharge: Retread

"Trunk's Super causes them to leave ants on enemies which deal damage over time."

Charge rate: 3 supers

Speed buff: 25%

Damage buff: 15%

Shield buff: 10%

With Trunk's hypercharge, he no longer slows down when hitting an enemy brawler, instead dealing a ton of damage to them over a short period of time. This can lead to a huge amount of damage if you are able to get a connection, and it doesn't take very long to charge thanks to Trunk's tank trait.

Gear selection:

Trunk's best gears are speed and damage, as he is often played on bushy maps, and he benefits a lot from damage gear due to his high health. On non-bushy maps, health is the best alternative, as he can heal up much faster.

Best build:

Other good abilities to buy:

Best Matchups:

Similar to other tanks, Trunk is good into brawlers that don't have too much mobility or damage, as he can easily run them down with his high health and good mobility. He is also better against brawlers with slow reload speeds, as they likely deal more damage per shot, giving him more value with his Worker Ants gadget. Examples of good matchups for Trunk include Penny, Meeple, and Squeak.

Best Counters:

Trunk is countered by high burst damage brawlers, as they can quickly take him down without much effort. Brawlers with a lot of health and a way to interrupt him are also good, since his attack has a delay. His hardest counters are Frank and El Primo, as they can easily shut him down with their high damage, health, and ability to stun. Lou is also a great option, as he can easily stun Trunk with his main attack, leaving him a sitting duck and feeding the enemy team.

Best Game Modes:

Trunk's best modes are Brawl Ball, Hot Zone, and Gem Grab, as he can use his HP and buffs best in those modes, as they often have plenty of walls and bushes for him to use for cover.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Be careful of your movement with Trunk. Just because someone is in range when you fire your main attack doesn't mean they will be in range when it deal damage because of its delay, so make sure to fire when you can get the enemy in range around half a second after you fire.

  • Trunk's super and hypercharge can deal a ton of damage, however the dash is very slow. Try not to auto-aim it unless you are extremely close to the enemy, as you want to be in contact with them as long as possible.

  • Make sure to use Trunk's Worker Ants gadget on the most damaging projectile and at low-ish health to make sure you tank and heal as much damage as possible. Time it properly to turn interactions around.

  • Against tougher matchups, make sure to keep spreading ants around the field to have small speed areas. This can help you approach the enemy without taking as much damage.

  • If you are at max health and not trying to catch someone off guard, you should always be using 1-2 shots at max ammo to make sure you are getting as many ants on the field as possible. It also gives you a slight speed boost right after spawning them, which can allow you to dodge more shots.

  • Trunk's super deals much more damage to enemies running away, as he stays in contact with the enemy much longer. Likewise, you want to be moving towards a Trunk when he uses his super, since you will take less damage.

  • Trunk's super can also be used for mobility, whether its dribbling the ball in Brawl Ball or just moving up to get a kill with your main attack.

  • If you are using Trunk's For The Queen! gadget, don't use it while healing, as using the gadget will reset it.

  • Even if you just slightly connect Trunk's hypercharge, it deals a ton of damage either killing the enemy taking a large chunk of their health away.
